Foods that can boost collagen production

For those who don’t know what collagen does for you, here is a quick overview. Collagen is a protein found in abundance in mammals, this protein provides structure to your skin and it helps your blood clot. Collagen is known to be the building blocks of muscles, bones, tendons, skin and ligaments. It is also found in other body parts like blood vessels, cornea and teeth. With every year passing by our body produces less collagen which means less elasticity and more wrinkles and fine lines. If there is good collagen production in your body then your skin won’t sag, which is why it is so important for women trying to take care of their skin.

If you believe in inside out skincare treatments then this blog is for you, here is a list of food that you can eat to boost collagen in your system.

1.       Chicken

This white meat has a lot of connective tissues, hence a lot of collagen. This is a reason why most of the collagen supplements are derived from chicken.

This might not be the most reliable source of collagen but it is very popular for it is properties. Made by simmering animal bones in the water when making it at home, it is believed that when simmered the collagen is extracted from the bones and deposited in the water. You can add spices for flavour.

3.       Fish

Fish doesn’t have collagen in abundance but the collagen present in them can be absorbed by our body easily, also the parts of fish (eyes, scales) containing plenty of collagen is not usually eaten.

You might have heard that egg whites have protein and it is true, although eggs don’t have connective tissues like animals but egg whites are rich in proteins called proline which is a type of collagen protein.
